The Medicaid Promoting Interoperability (PI) program is aimed at improving the quality, safety, and efficiency of patient care and is implemented by measuring the performance of Eligible Professionals (EPs) across a set of objectives and measures that support these goals.

The requirements for the Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Program for the 2021 reporting year are based on the following CMS final rule and are subject to change.
Setup Requirements
To meet the measure requirements for Medicaid PI, the clinic setup must include:
- Access to prescribe electronically using Rcopia
- An active Direct Message account
- One or more interfaces may be required for the Public Health and Clinical Data Registry Reporting objective and are detailed in the measure workflow where applicable
Note
The ability to prescribe controlled substances is not required to meet the measures but is available in Sevocity through the activation of an EPCS Gold account.

Medicaid Promoting Interoperability Measure Types
Medicaid PI consists of two types of measures: percentage-based and self-attestation. For the purposes of reporting, percentage-based measures require a numerator, denominator, and resulting percent, and self-attestation measures require a Yes or No attestation.
