Encounter Types

Patient encounters are comprised of a combination of tabs designed to support a variety of patient care workflows.

Configuration
  • To customize encounter types and tabs, The Clinic Administrator can enable or disable encounter types and certain tabs within an encounter by going to Tools > Preferences > CLINIC > Encounter Types > Begin Edit
  • The order in which tabs display in an encounter can be customized at the user or CLINIC level. To customize the tab order in an encounter, go to Tools > Preferences > CLINIC or [user] > Encounter Types > Begin Edit
Encounter Types

Multi-System: requires a physical exam and a coding component; available to clinics using 1995 E/M coding guidelines

Exam: requires a physical exam and a coding component; available to clinics using 1997 E/M coding guidelines

Procedure: for documentation of clinical procedures or healthcare visits that do not require a physical exam

Immunization: for documentation of the administration of vaccines or to document immunization history

Telephone: for documentation of patient-clinic or patient-provider phone communication or to document patient services conducted over the phone

Urgent Care: a multi-system/exam encounter for urgent care visits with additional fields to capture Admit Date and Discharge Date and an export feature to create a syndromic surveillance data file.

Reconciliation: a multi-system/exam encounter for documentation of a detailed reconciliation of patient records

Historical: for documentation of a patient’s health history prior to their first clinical encounter. A Historical encounter is available for use one time and only if the patient has no other finalized encounters

Note

Clinics with an obstetrics specialty will have access to OB encounter types.

Special Encounter Types

Blank Note Encounter: a free text documentation tool for adding notes or information to a patient’s chart

Confidential Blank Note: a free text documentation tool for adding notes or information of a sensitive nature to a patient’s chart
