e-Prescribing

Measure: At least one permissible prescription written by the MIPS ECClosed Eligible Clinician: a Medicare provider who qualifies for MIPS participation is queried for a drug formulary and transmitted electronically using CEHRTClosed Certified EHR Technology, an EHR that conforms to the ONC's Health IT Certification Program criteria and standards.
DenominatorThe number of prescriptions written for drugs requiring a prescription in order to be dispensed other than controlled substances during the performance period; or number of prescriptions written for drugs requiring a prescription in order to be dispensed during the performance period.
NumeratorThe number of prescriptions in the denominator generated, queried for a drug formulary, and transmitted electronically using CEHRT.
ExclusionAny MIPS eligible clinician who writes fewer than 100 permissible prescriptions during the performance period.

To be included in the denominator:

  • Patient must have a prescription for a drug created in Rcopia during the performance period

OR

  • Patient must have a prescription for a controlled substance created in Rcopia during the performance period

To create a prescription in Rcopia, go to Encounter > Medications > Manage/ Prescribe Meds > Prescribe a Medication

To be included in the numerator:

  • Prescription created in Rcopia must be queried for a drug formulary during the performance period

AND

  • Prescription created in Rcopia must be sent electronically by the EC or authorized Provider Agent on behalf of the EC during the performance period

AND

  • Encounter in which prescription was sent must be finalized by the EC

Prescriptions created in Rcopia are automatically queried for a drug formulary

  1. Select or create the prescription to be sent
  2. Enter the Signature Password, if applicable
    1. The prescribing of a controlled substance will require a passphrase and PIN for transmission authorization
  3. Click the Send or Send and Print or Send, Signature to Follow button
